Honors
I was recently made a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in recognition of my work related to statistics in bioinformatics and for service to the profession.
Involvement with academia
Even though I am no longer directly associated with academia, I still try to maintain some relationship with academia.
- I've visited, by invitation, the National University of Singapore (April 2000) and Universiteit Hasselt in Belgium (April 2005).
- I've done some teaching (see below).
- I've been on the PhD dissertation committees of students graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University, Rutgers University, Temple University and Universiteit Hasselt (Belgium).
- I've given seminars at Princeton University, Rutgers University, Temple University, Emory University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Penn State University at York, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Montclair State University, University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon University.
Teaching
I've down a bit of teaching over the years and also organized some courses.
- Course Director and Faculty Member, PERI (PhRMA's Pharmaceutical Education and Research Institute) course on Statistics in Genomics and Biomarker Development (offered live in 2006 and as a webinar series in 2009).
- Instructor on Statistics in Genomics, PERI's Nonclinical Statistics course (2001).
- Various lectures, undergraduate courses and graduate courses at University of New Mexico, Rutgers University, Temple University, Limburgs University Centrum (now Universiteit Hasselt in Belgium), and University of Colombo.
- Several tutorials and courses based on the Microarray book (please see "Publications" tab).
Service to professional organizations
I've been active in various professional organizations.
- Member, American Statistical Association (ASA).
- Member, Applied Statistics Association of Sri Lanka (ASASL).
- Member of PhRMA's Statistics Expert Team for Biomarker Qualification (2007-2009) and Member of PhRMA's Statistics Expert Team for Pharmacogenomics (2004-2006).
- Member of ASA's Committee on Award of Outstanding Application (2001-2003)
- President of the New Jersey Chapter of the ASA (1994/5) and Symposium Chair (1993/1994).
- Vice President and Program Chair of the Albuquerque Chapter of the ASA (1987).
- Program chair (preclinical) for the 24th Midwest Biopharmaceutical Statistics Workshop (2001).
